Cannabis Basics: Tips, Tricks, and What to Expect

March 30, 2017

If you’ve never tried marijuana, but you’re curious, here are some things you might consider:

Not Just for “Stoners”

Despite the common stereotypes we have of stoners, people from diverse walks of life use marijuana, and there is no one way to use it. According to the
Pew Research Center in 2015, about half of Americans claim to have tried marijuana. In addition, there is evidence that cannabis has been used in a variety of ways as far back as ancient China, India, Egypt, and Greece.

Medical Benefits

There is archaeological and historical evidence that marijuana has been used medicinally for thousands of years, since its first cultivation in central Asia. Unfortunately, because marijuana has been treated as a Schedule 1 Drug in the U.S., it has been difficult to conduct scientific research on the effects of cannabis. Nonetheless, as legalization has made it possible for more scientific research, evidence has emerged in favor of many potential medical benefits of cannabis, including pain relief, appetite stimulation, and anxiety reduction.

Enhanced Mood and Creativity

When THC reaches the brain, it can have several effects on your psychological experience. If you’re in the right context, these effects can lead to very pleasurable, even productive experiences. For example, people commonly report feelings of euphoria, relaxation, increase in creativity, introspection, and appreciation of music and humor. For this reason, marijuana can be a great tool to stimulate different ways of thinking about and appreciating the world around you.

Take the Proper Precautions

The main psychoactive compound in marijuana, THC, is responsible for the feeling of being “”high.” If you have never tried marijuana we recommend starting with a relatively smaller dose of THC. 5 milligrams of THC is a great starting point, allowing you to experience a mild “high”.  A product with a bit of CBD might also help curb any potential anxiety or body tension. We also recommend trying marijuana with someone who is experienced and trustworthy. Keep in mind that if you are consuming an edible product that it’ll take at least 30 minutes to an hour before you’ll feel any effects, so be patient! If you take the proper precautions when using marijuana, you can have a positive experience and reap the benefits of relaxation and enhanced mood.
